Desert Magic

The breathtaking landscapes of the desert have a way of reminding us of both the value of life and the harshness of unforgiving places.
While the stereotypical image of a desiccated skull baking in the relentless sun creates an ominous feeling, a deeper consideration of these skulls reminds us that they once protected the brains of creatures that refused to accept the inevitability of death. Life exists here, despite the lack of biodiversity. I see the perfect expression of this triumph in the proliferation of succulents. Reaching to the sky in defiant promise,  succulents not only survive and thrive; their innumerable varieties, colours and shapes inspire joy and human resilience.
